Children’s Miracle Network - Ongoing

Join us in raising donations for the Children’s Miracle Network.  The CMN Visa Gift card can be used at a variety of locations wherever Visa is accepted. The dollar amount is prepaid at time of purchase. The value range is $25.00 - $500.00, cards are available at all branches. A perfect gift for everyone. Also, keep a look out for special seasonal basket raffles - they are fun for everyone. All income goes to the Children’s Miracle Network.

Visit from Saint Nicholas, Arizona Volunteer Center,  December 2007

Arizona Credit Union foundation donated $750.00 on behalf of Desert Energy Credit Union. The monetary gift of $750.00 offered many underprivileged Tucson school children backpacks, books and educational gifts when Saint Nicholas visited their school. DECU employees, handed out backpacks filled with gifts to Kindergarten students at Pueblo Gardens Elementary School in Tucson, Arizona.

Letters To Davis Monthan AFB Troops, November 2007

Desert Energy Credit Union purchased supplies for 150 letters and treat boxes to be shipped to the Davis Monthan AFB Search and Rescue Troops overseas this holiday season. Acacia Elementary first and second grade classrooms were assisted by a DECU employee to write and assemble the thoughtful and heartfelt letters and treat boxes that were sent to our local heroes.

Desert Energy Credit Union employees teamed up with Tucson Federal Credit Union to help a lower income Tucson resident make much needed home and yard repairs.

88-Crime Day in the Park, March 2007

Desert Energy Credit Union, along with seven other Tucson area Credit Unions, were event sponsors of the 88-Crime Day in the Park. 88-Crime is a local law enforcement agency that coordinates reward programs for tips that lead to criminal arrests. The 88-Crime Day in the Park event included an 8K run, 5K fun walk and a festival in the park.

Children’s Miracle Network Fundraising Efforts, August 2006-2007

Maintains established employee payroll deduction for donations. Sold raffle tickets for Holiday Basket, BBQ Basket and Breakers Water Park. Sold and sells beverages, snacks, candy, gumballs from machines in lobbies. Sold tickets for employee luncheons. Donated portion of Get Away Today Vacations to the Children’s Miracle Network. Donated proceeds from Credit Union for Kids, CMN Visa gift cards.

Adopt A Grandparent, sponsored by Mary Kay, December 2006

Desert Energy Credit Union adopted two grandparents to receive a special gift basket during the holiday season, total donation $60.00.

Springerville-Eagar Holiday Project, November 2006

Desert Energy Credit Union donated $50.00 to support Adopt A Family and other community holiday events hosted by the Springerville-Eagar Regional Chamber of Commerce.

White Mountain Golf Tournament, Springerville-Eagar Regional Chamber of Commerce, March - September 2007

Desert Energy Credit Union, donated $100.00. The proceeds from the tournament go to Adopt A Family foundation as well as funding a new Wellness Center in  Round Valley. The new wellness facility focuses on physical fitness and cardiovascular wellness. Total funds raised for the Wellness Center was $6,750.

Meals On Wheels, September 2006

DECU employee, donated $50.00 to help Meals on Wheels provide food to homebound seniors.

Round Valley Cares,  Arizona Food Bank, August 2006 – June 2007

DECU employee donates, $1.00 a week or one can of food per week. In addition, the DECU employee volunteers once every 3 months to distribute food and assist with the turkey drive in November. The goal of Round Valley cares is to reduce hunger/starvation in America.

Southwest Youth Sports, August 2006 - April 2007

DECU employee volunteered as a primary coach for two soccer teams (19 children total: ranging from age 3-7 years) from August 2006 – Jan 2007; volunteered as an assistant soccer coach for one soccer team (12 children total: raging from age 5-7 years) from Feb 2007- April 2007. Donated funds for shirts, food, celebrations, and awards. The goal of Southwest Youth Sports is to increase youth fitness and overall health of today’s youth.

Special Olympics of Arizona, River Run Golf Course Benefit, June 2007.

Desert Energy Credit Union contributed $50.00 to help raise funds to offset travel and uniform costs for the Special Olympics.

National Credit Union Youth Week , Stash Your Cash, April 2007

Supported national effort to promote youth savings, sponsored by CUNA. DECU employees distributed youth giveaways and dressed up as pirates.

Arizona Credit Union foundation donated $750.00 on behalf of Desert Energy Credit Union. DECU employees, stuffed, organized and handed out backpacks filled with gifts to Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade, students at Ocotillo Elementary School in Tucson, Arizona.

Dictionary Project, Apache County, March 2007

DECU employee distributed dictionaries to third grade students in Apache County, Arizona. The program increases youth knowledge base and improves writing skills.

Hudlow Elementary, April 2007

DECU employees taught 3rd grade students at Hudlow how to effectively build skills for Saving, Sharing and Spending.  Dain Raucher donated banks that students could build and take home to practice their three “S’s.”  The importance of children learning the difference between needs and wants at an early age will provide a strong financial foundation for their future.

Junior Achievement, JA Success Skills, Catalina High Magnet School, January to February 2007

DECU employee taught an eight week course during 5th and 6th period classes to 10th and 11th grade students.  The curricula covered a variety of contents from Communicating Effectively, Improving your Skills, Building Rapport, Applying your Skills, and many other life skills. An additional DECU employee assisted with student interviewing during mock interviews.

Jr. Duel in the Desert, Toltecalli Academy Charter High School, February 2007

Desert Energy Credit Union donated $500.00 in financial assistance funds for the final cash prizes and awards for the Jr. Duel in the Desert that took place at the University of Arizona. DECU employee taught two classes of a six part series of the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) “The Financial Planning Program.” DECU employee taught two 11th grade classes - Unit Four titled Savings and Investments: Your Money at Work. The curricula covered valuable information for high school students to help reinforce their skills for building the foundation for future savings and investing.     

Reality Store, Round Valley High School, November 2006 and April 2007

Desert Energy Credit Union donated check registers, and employees volunteered to open initial faux “checking account” for students and give instruction on how to use a check register. The program is a hard dose of reality to high school freshman on what it really costs to survive in today’s world. The program is hosted by Springerville Rotary Club with volunteers from all over the community. More than 127 students are involved in the program.

Student of the Month Award, Round Valley Unified School District, Aug 2006- June 2007

DECU employee volunteers monthly to distribute awards and school supplies to winners. Awards are based on service to community and moral standards in the classroom and to fellow students. Awards are distributed to the Primary, Intermediate, Middle, High and two academy schools.

Angel Tree Program, September 2006

Desert Energy Credit Union contributed $500 to the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program through a community Golf Tournament in Springerville, Arizona. The Angel Tree Program provides foods and gifts for underprivileged families during the holiday season. VP Member Services, CUE Financial Advisor, and Board Member participated in the golf tournament.

DECU employee maintained a financial information booth and offered giveaways at the community celebration. Eagar Daze is an annual community celebration.

Lizzie Bell Blood Drive, American Red Cross, June 2007

DECU employee donated blood and Desert Energy Credit Union donated giveaways. Desert Energy Credit Union donated $100.00 to American Red Cross to help provide a safe and constant supply of blood and blood products for the community.

Desert Energy Credit Union has old cell phone collection boxes placed in 3 branch lobbies. The cell phones are collected for recycling. The program is aimed at improving the environment, and giving emergency phone access to underprivileged and elderly adults.

Springerville-Eagar Regional Chamber of Commerce, “Chrome in the Dome,” June 2007

Desert Energy Credit Union sponsored one trophy class winner of the classic car show, donation of $100.00. Proceeds from “Chrome in the Dome” support on going Chamber of Commerce improvement projects.

White Mountain Ambulance Service, March 2007

Desert Energy Credit Union contributed to raising over 12,000 for building a new Ambulance Station, DECU donated $50.00. The new station houses 5 ambulance units and staff. The new facility offers community education classes for CPR and fire prevention.

White Mountain Half Marathon Race, September 2006

Desert Energy Credit Union was one of 100+ participants that contributed to raising funds for the Springerville Rotary Club, DECU donated $50.00. The donations support Round Valley Food Bank, RVHS Scholarships, Dictionaries for Students, Camp for Kids, Road Cleanup and Water Quality and Conservation..
