Desert Energy Credit Union is owned by its members and run by a Board of Directors you elect. You can be confident that your financial privacy is a top priority of this Credit Union. We are required by law to give you this Privacy Notice to explain how we collect, use and safeguard your personal financial information. We are committed to providing you with competitive products and services to meet your financial needs, which necessitates that we share information about you to complete your transactions and to provide you with certain financial opportunities. In order to do so, we have entered into agreements with other companies that provide either services to us or additional financial products for you to consider. Under these arrangements, we may disclose all of the information we collect, as described below, to companies that perform marketing or other services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements.
To protect our member’s financial privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of the information we provide. We do not permit these companies to sell to other third parties the information we provide to them.
Information We Collect And Disclose About You
We collect the following nonpublic personal information about you from a variety of sources and may disclose all the information we collect to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements.
• Information we receive from you on membership and loan applications and other forms;
• Information about your transactions with us or others;
• Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency;
• Information obtained when verifying the information you provide on an application or other forms, such as from your current or past employers or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions.
We may also disclose information we collect about you under other circumstances as permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct the operations of our Credit Union, follow your instructions as you authorize, or protect the security of our financial records.
If you terminate your membership with Desert Energy Credit Union, we will not share information we have collected about you, except as permitted or required by law.
How We Protect Your Information
We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who have a specific business purpose in utilizing your data. Our employees are trained in the importance of maintaining confidentiality and member privacy. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations and leading industry practices to safeguard your nonpublic information.
What You Can Do To Protect Your Privacy
You can take certain precautionary steps to protect the privacy of your financial information.
• Protect your account numbers, plastic cards, Personal Identification Numbers (PINS) and passwords. Never write your PIN on a credit, debit, or ATM Card.
• Shredding is the best way to dispose of old financial statements, receipts, and credit card offers received through the mail.
• Do not disclose personal information such as account numbers or social security number over the phone. The Credit Union already has this information so we will never call you requesting this information. If you get a call like this, please hang up and immediately report this call to Credit Union management.
• Keep your records with us current and make sure we have your correct address, home phone and work phone number.
• Our employees are trained to safeguard your information and will not give out information over the phone or in person until they can positively identify you. They may ask you questions about your account or ask you for identification. Please remember that we do this to protect you and your privacy.
USA Patriot Act
This notice contains important information about procedures and identification requirements for opening a new account.
Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. This law is designed to help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities.
When an account is opened or changed, you will be asked for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will identify you. We will also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying government issued documents.
If you already have an account with us and you open additional accounts, add joint owners to an existing loan or apply for a loan, we may request and verify your identification.
We may also complete an inquiry about you with ChexSystems, a credit reporting agency, or other third party.
Maintaining your privacy is our top concern and you can be assured that we will only use the information for purposes of complying with the law. Thank you for your understanding as we work to support the efforts of the USA Patriot Act.
